Glamping Peak District at Hunting Tower Chatsworth House

Location: Chatsworth, England

Glamping Peak District at Hunting Tower Chatsworth House

The Tower, perched 400 feet above the historic Chatsworth House and on the outskirts of Stand Wood, gives unsurpassed panoramic views of Capability Brown’s classic Park. This architectural marvel, finished around 1582, is a tribute to the talent of the great Elizabethan architect, Robert Smythson, and was commissioned by Bess of Hardwick, a descendant of the Dukes of Devonshire. Notably, while the cottage accommodates children, it is advised more for older children due to the intrinsic spiral stairway.

The Hunting Tower, as it is commonly known, whispers sixteenth-century tales. It was formerly a banquet hall or a summer retreat for ladies of the era to watch the hounds pursue their prey in the park below. It is now a house for the estate’s workers, with the Duke’s nephew being the most recent occupant.

Following the completion of rigorous restoration work in 2003, the Hunting Tower was transformed into an exclusive holiday destination, providing Chatsworth guests with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to enjoy its historic beauty. In addition, a neighbouring stone outbuilding was renovated in 2006 to accommodate larger groups.
